Today, I'll be introducing one of the popular bands I like from Japan. If you've been keeping up with the J-Rock scene, you might probably know them - SCANDAL. They will be releasing their 17th single「Overdrive」and album 「Standard」soon.
Let's hear「Overdrive」 !
The band has performed the theme songs for many anime, including 「Shōjo S」and 「Harukaze」 for Bleach, and 「Shunkan Sentimental」for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, along with other cover songs for anime as well. The first time I came to know SCANDAL was through Bleach when I fell for the opening theme「Shōjo S」.

SCANDAL was formed in 2006 by four talented high school girls, Haruna (Vo. & Guitar), Mami (Guitar & Vo.), Rina (Drummer & Vo.) and Tomomi (Bass & Vo.). They started performing street lives every weekend at Shiroten in Osaka Castle Park in their early days before debut. Soon, they started getting offers from clubs in Osaka and Kyoto, and eventually with their major debut in 2008, they signed with indie label Kitty Records and released three singles exclusive to Tower Records in 2008. As the years go by, they have morphed from the initial girlie group performing in school uniforms, to a chic quartet now ready to show off their inner rock chick:

They have became more successful over the years and in 2012, they held their first concert at the Nippon Budokan. They went on to perform at Osaka-jō Hall in March 2013 and fulfilled one of their biggest dreams.

SCANDAL performed two shows in Singapore on 16 & 17 March 2013 at *Scape Warehouse. I'd wish they come back to perform again definitely! I see SCANDAL as rock musicians more than just pop-idol. No doubt they do look good and have attractive attires in their music videos and concerts, it was however, their song which captured me at the very beginning before I even knew how they look like. I like many of their songs, with some lyrics written and music composed by their own members as well. I believe they will continue to create good music with their love and passion in hard rock and metal songs. They are individually great musicians too who are outstanding in their own ways.
